"Optometry is the measurement of the eye (Greek ὤψ → eye and μέτρον → measure, measurement, measurement). Measurements are the basis for determining and fitting visual aids and for assessing the health of the eye and the visual system. They include refraction determination, determination of visual functions, biometric measurements and - in an extended sense - also examination of the eye with various diagnostic procedures. Users of the RAL Quality Mark Optometric Services must comply with the continuing education requirement applicable in the Quality and Inspection Regulations and provide evidence of their continuing education."

What exactly is optometry?
As optometrists, we are your first point of contact for everything to do with your eyes. By measuring and evaluating visual functions, we obtain information about the general condition of the eye. The optometrist recognizes eye diseases and makes tentative diagnoses. Your ophthalmologist then is primarily responsible for taking care of eye conditions.
